The shorter needles make the 40cm cable useful in its own right. I prefer the steel tips to the acrylic - it is probably just me but I seem to wearout/ break the tips on the acrylic tips and find the see-through needles make counting stitches difficult.

I started using these shorter needles to knit smaller circumference cowls (less faffing than magic loop/two circs). I've learned that for me the secret to an easier life in any craft is learning to handle the tools. Knitting is no different. With a bit of practice I discovered I really liked using them and knit faster. Of course with the Knit Pro system I can use them with any length of cable, and now use nothing else in the sizes they are available in. Just wish they made them in acrylic for bad arthritis days!
Although I prefer the KnitPro acrylic tips because the flexibility makes them easier on my hands, the Nova metal ones make a lovely change now and then and are indispensable for those yarns that want to stick a little too well to acrylic needle tips. Also, these won't break, where the smaller sizes of acrylic tips seem vulnerable. I bought short tips this time for versatility; I know they'll work with any cable I happen to grab, even the short 40cm ones. I do wish they were marked with their sizes, but perhaps that's more difficult with metal--and to be fair, the markings are wearing off a couple of my older acrylic tips now anyway. All in all, a great buy, especially at Woolstack prices. (Yes, it's cheaper for me to get them posted from the UK than to buy them locally in New Zealand!)
After snapping two of the KnitPro wooden needles of this size decided to try the metal tips - perfect for tight fiddley work. As usual the service from Wool Stack was 5* thank you.
KnitPro Short Metal Tips - ideal for knitting in the round...
So much better than using double point needles
Smooth, easy, useful.
I ordered these because sometimes I find the normal ones a little long. They are just the right size great if you have problem with loose tension as it allows you to knit a little tighter than usual. I love them wish I'd bought them sooner!
These short needles together with the short cable are a great alternative to double point needles for medium sized projects such as sleeves, neck lines etc.
These beautiful Nova Metal Interchangeable Needle Tips from KNITPRO are ideal for anyone wishing to extend their range of KnitPro circular needles.
Note these are SPECIAL small needle tips (100mm compared with the normal length of 128mm) designed especially to be used with the 40cm cable (making a knitting length of 40 cm/16 inches). Ideal for those knitting smaller items.
The needles from Knit Pro's Nova Metal range are made from hollow brass pipes that make the needles light in weight. The lustrous silky surface enables your stitches to glide along the needle without restriction.
